KDB3 is multi-instrumentalist Doug Bowers.
Doug has spent his life immersed in music. He started playing the rough watering holes around his hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia in the mid 70s. Since 1982, he has been heavily involved in the music scene of his adopted home of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Doug began writing and producing music in the early 90s with his first album under the KDB3 moniker being Autobiograph. Although never intended for commercial release, it did get noticed by some of the early Christian Progressive Rock email forums who eagerly added the name KDB3 to their growing list of recommended bands and artists.
Doug quickly found another writing outlet in Ad Astra. The trio included multi-instrumentalists Christopher Flynn and Mitch Rall. Their initial release included the song 'Angle of Repose' which also featured founding Kansas member Dave Hope on bass guitar. The song was included on CPR volume 3, a Christian Progressive Rock compilation CD co-produced by Gene Crout and Randy George (Ajalon, Neal Morse Band). Ad Astra released two critically acclaimed albums, Beyond Our Bounds and Surface of Last Scattering.
The first official release from KDB3 was Verite in 2009. Verite contained a mix of both shorter songs as well as the multi-part 'Truth Suite' clocking at more than fourteen minutes. It was well received by the C-Prog community and garnered respectable reviews.
Autobiograph was re-recorded and released in 2011. It was embraced by the secular progressive rock as well as the C-Prog community. The album contained several pieces not on the original. Autobiograph contained mostly shorter songs and centered around Doug's personal testimony. It too received very respectable reviews and gained KDB3 more fans worldwide. A standout from this release was the song, 'Crisis of Faith', which was included on CPR volume 4.
Doug released his third KDB3 album, I Fill My Days With Noise, in 2018. It demonstrated a more long form symphonic style of music presentation. The Progressive Aspect had this to say about the album: "Every track on this album is a worthy addition to progressive rock history, and a great surprise to find near the end of 2018. Thankfully I have not completed my best of 2018 yet, I Fill My Days With Noise will definitely make the list." Although not intended to be a concept album, several reviewers and fans made connections that, although unintended, drove a more cohesive point home.
When It All Comes to Pass' is the fourth album by KDB3. The bulk of the title track was written and recorded during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. It was a reaction to the sudden change in societal norms and offered the artist's perspective as to how those norms came to pass in such a profound fashion. Writing the thirty minute epic proved to be a cathartic release of pent up frustrations.
Since retiring from his day job as a dentist in 2018, Doug has turned his attention to KDB3 as well as operating a music recording ministry through Immanuel Church in Destin. The ministry, The Immanuel Music Project, provides free to low cost music production services to all musicians. Doug has had the privilege of working with many musicians of all ages across all genres.
